Since 2004, Tom Phat has been more than just a place to eat — it’s been a part of Brunswick’s story.
Located on the iconic Sydney Road, we’ve served up bold, flavour-packed dishes inspired by the street food of Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia. But beyond the food, what truly defines us is our connection to the community that surrounds us.
A Neighbourhood Favourite
Tom Phat was one of the first restaurants in the area to offer South East Asian fusion food in a modern, share-plate style — something that’s now part of Melbourne’s dining DNA. Over the years, we’ve seen first dates, graduations, birthdays, family catch-ups and late-night chats all unfold under our recycled timber ceiling and distinctive tatami panels. For many locals, we’ve been a dependable part of life’s special moments.
In 2024, the restaurant changed hands, and the new owners chose to carry the Tom Phat name forward. Why? Because it was clear how much this place meant to the community. Our regulars told us stories, showed us photos, and reminded us that this restaurant is not just a business — it’s a local icon. We’re proud to honour that legacy every day.
Giving Back
We believe in showing up for the community that supports us. Over the years, we’ve proudly donated dinners and vouchers to local fundraising events, including:
Brunswick Secondary College’s annual silent auction, supporting education and enrichment for local students
The RCH Smile Auxiliary, raising funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital to help improve care for sick children
DineSmart, a hospitality initiative by StreetSmart Australia that channels support towards grassroots projects tackling homelessness
We also employ local staff, support students with flexible hours, and work hard to keep our food accessible — without compromising on quality or creativity.

We’re currently working on much-needed updates to our dining area and facilities so we can continue to serve Brunswick for many more years to come — with the same heart, and even better comfort.
